Everyone has heard of the Manchester Bee, but not everyone knows where it came from. During the industrial revolution, the mills and workers of Manchester were known as the “Hives” and the “Bees”. This nickname became so popular that in 1842 it was added to the Manchester coat of arms. Now, over a hundred years later, the bee is a symbol of defiance against those who seek to harm our city. After the Manchester bombing, thousands stood together, rallying around the symbol of the bee, and showing to the world that we are not afraid, and we will not be beaten. Northern Soul is the music movement that defined Manchester in the late 1960’s. Born of fast tempo American Black Soul records the craze began right here, in The Twisted Wheel, with its revolutionary “all-nighters”. Manchester’s nightlife didn’t end in the 70’s though, and our spirit for partying is still renowned throughout the country. Our Northern Soul range has been designed to reflect our city’s record-spinning roots.

Salford, established 923AD, now a neighbouring city to Manchester. During the industrial revolution Salford grew under its own steam, and became one of the North’s greatest centres in the cotton trade. Salford’s docks hosted one of the most successful inland ports on the Manchester ship canal, and is now the home to Media City, where BBC Sports and ITV News call home! We’re proud to have Salford as our neighbour, and created this design to show that!
