Description
The Manchester Ship Canal is the artery into the heart of the north. First opened in 1894 the canal is responsible for the Port of Manchester being the UK’s 3rd largest port despite being 40km inland! Peaking in the 1950’s the traffic on the canal has declined steadily, although there are now plans to reopen the canal to relieve road congestion between Liverpool and Manchester.
